Floral Infusions: Crafting Refreshing Beverages with Minnesota's Wildflowers
Hello, Minnesotans! Today, I'm excited to share a delightful way to make the most of our beautiful wildflowers by incorporating them into refreshing beverages. Imagine capturing the essence of Minnesota's natural beauty in a glass! Here we go:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of freshly picked edible wildflowers (violets, dandelions, and elderflowers work wonderfully)
- 4 cups of water
- 1/2 cup of honey or agave syrup
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 1 sprig of fresh mint (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Fill a large bowl with the cold water and gently rinse the wildflowers to remove any dirt and bugs. Drain and set aside.
- In a pot, bring the 4 cups of water to a boil, then remove from heat.
- Add the wildflowers to the water, cover, and let steep for 20-30 minutes.
- Strain the infusion to remove the flowers. You should have a beautifully fragrant floral tea by now.
- While the mixture is still warm, stir in the honey or agave syrup until fully dissolved.
- Allow the infusion to cool to room temperature, then stir in the lemon juice.
- Refrigerate for at least one hour to chill.
Serving Instructions:
Serve the infusion over ice in a glass tumbler. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and a couple of whole wildflowers for that extra touch of Minnesota charm. This refreshing drink is perfect for a summer afternoon, enjoyed alone or shared with friends and family.
